All are welcome to celebrate with University of Houston-Clear Lake as the Alumni Association hosts the 2013 Alumni Celebration Saturday, Oct. 19, 6:30 p.m., at Space Center Houston, 1601 NASA Parkway, Houston. Five alumni will be honored with four of them receiving Distinguished Alumni Awards and one being awarded the Early Achievement Award. A longtime university faculty member will also be honored with the Outstanding Professor Award.
“UHCL alumni continue to do great things to make our community, country and world a better place to live and we look forward to honoring them every year,” says UHCL President William A. Staples. “And, our faculty continue to astonish us with their commitment to education, research and teaching.”
Recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Awards include astronaut Col. Edward Michael “Mike” Fincke; Matterhorn Capital Management Partner, Principal and Portfolio Manager Charles “Chuck” Hall Jr.; NASA Johnson Space Center Human Resources Director Natalie V. Saiz; and Travel Dreams owner and Cruise and Space Tourism Specialist Diane H. Vest.
Alabama Baptist Health System President and CEO M. Shane Spees will receive the Early Achievement Award, while Professor of Literature John Gorman will be awarded the Outstanding Professor Award.
The annual celebration also welcomes back past honorees and allows guests to catch up with old friends. Attendees will hear more about recent accolades at the university and future initiatives including how the university is preparing for freshman and sophomore students who will be arriving fall 2014.

University of Houston-Clear Lake offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including a doctoral program, from its four schools, which include the School of Business, School of Education, School of Human Sciences and Humanities, and School of Science and Computer Engineering.
