Dance theater performance celebrates art

Dominic Walsh Dance Theater
Experience a specially-choreographed contemporary dance production, Jan. 23, 6 p.m., presented by the Dominic Walsh Dance Theater at UH-Clear Lake’s Art Gallery located on the first floor of the Bayou Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston. The presentation was created in response to the art exhibition, “Inner Space, Global Matter: Recording from the Structures Within – Geraldine Ondrizek, Works from 2008 – 2012” by Portland artist and Reed College Professor of Art Geraldine Ondrizek now on display through Feb. 1, 2013, in UH-Clear Lake’s Art Gallery, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, 77058.

The performance celebrates Ondrizek’s artwork, which is composed of human cell and DNA test images and created in collaboration with geneticists. This exhibition is part of a larger simultaneous collaboration with presentations at Space Center Houston and Florida International University’s Miami Beach Urban Studios. The artist’s work has been widely shown in museums and galleries, been reviewed in well-known art publications, and sold in limited editions to raise funds for cancer research.

Founded by Dominic Walsh in 2002, the Dominic Walsh Dance Theater takes techniques of classical ballet into diverse and inventive territory. The dance company was recently named “Best Dance Company” by Houston Press.
