Cultural Arts Series presents ‘Blazing Baroque’
Hear the music of Vivaldi, Locatelli and Handel when Mercury, formerly Mercury Baroque, presents “Blazing Baroque” at University of Houston-Clear Lake Aug. 30, 8 p.m., in the university’s Bayou Theater, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, 77058.
The orchestra’s mission is to serve the community by celebrating the power of music, Baroque and beyond, through teaching, sharing and performances. This free event is sponsored by the university Office of Student Life’s Cultural Arts program and marks the beginning of the 2012-2013 Cultural Arts Season.
‘How to Get What You Want in the REAL World’ presented
Discover “How to Get What You Want in the REAL World” by attending a pre-recorded broadcast of the program presented by Mel Robbins, host and star of A&E Network’s “Monster In-Laws” television series, at University of Houston-Clear Lake Aug. 16, 5 – 7 p.m., in the university’s Student Services and Classroom Building, room 2311, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.
This event is offered by the Office of Student Life’s Student Leadership, Involvement and Community Engagement as part of the Emerging Leaders Academy. Light refreshments will be provided.
New students, guests welcome to Alumni Coffee Table
New University of Houston-Clear Lake students can socialize and meet current students, alumni and community friends during the UHCL Alumni Association’s Coffee Table Aug. 28, 6:30 p.m., in the university’s Bayou Building, Atrium I, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, 77058.
Visit with students between classes as well as UHCL alumni over a cup of coffee and find out more about alumni and community activities at the university

Art School for Children and Young Adults now open for enrollment
Let University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Art School for Children and Young Adults reveal your child’s artistry with classes for students from ages 3 ½ through high school. Ongoing registration is open until classes are full in the university’s Arbor Building, Room 155, 156, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, 77058. Classes are held at the university and area schools.
All students receive encouraging instruction and learn to work in multiple art mediums of clay, drawing and painting.
Tuition ranges from $80-$125, depending on selected class, location and child’s age. Registration can be submitted in the university’s Arbor Building, Room 159, Monday -Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
